Recently, Gianluigi Buffon signed a contract extension with Serie B, Serie C wanna be, Parma. His childhood club… OK, it is nice, in some aspects, that Buffon, the legendary Italian keeper will be active for so long. Not really… I mean, OK, it is nice to remember Buffon from 2000, 2003, 2006, even 2012 or 2015, but now it is too much. To see a guy embarrassing himself at 44 years, after he touched the status of a living legend it’s not that nice… Not too many will say that, unfortunately. I know, Buffon has a very big regret, that he did not win the Champions League, but he won’t do that with Parma. Until 2024 (!!!) when he chose to play there – maybe even more, who knows? – it is more likely to win, maybe, a promotion play-off from Serie D to Serie C.
Buffon plans to be eternal
Seriously, sometimes you just need to know when to stop. In 2017, when he announced his retirement from the national team of Italy, that looked like a reasonable option. He was 39 already. Now he want’s to regain his spot… He tried PSG: reserve and a lot of mistakes when he played. Back to Juventus, reserve of Szcsesny, a poor goalkeeper, maybe at the level of Polish first league, but not for a team like Juventus. After, Buffon went back to Parma. Extended until 2024, when he’ll be 46. Most important is that – thought honestly initially that it was just a joke – he would like to plat the FIFA World Cup from 2026 if he won’t be getting this one. Unbelievable! I’ll present you the last seasons of Gianluigi Buffon, to fully catch my idea.
It is nice to hunt all kind of vintage, longevity records, but still…
- 2018-2019: PSG, 25 games overall
- 2019-2020: Juventus, 15 games overall
- 2020-2021: Juventus, 14 games overall
- 2021-2022: Parma, 22 games in Serie B
