The Rugby World Cup 2023, held in France ended its group matches and there are some very interesting clashes in the quarter finals. By far, the biggest surprise of the competition was the progression of Fiji ahead of Australia, team which they beat in a spectacular game. However, the qualification of Fiji in the quarters was not without thrill, since they lost themselves the last game of the group, almost shocking, 23-24 to Portugal. A nation that looked to have no chance at the beginning of the encounter. In the end, thanks to the bonus point, Fiji made it trough and would play against England in the quarter finals. Actually, let’s see, below, how the quarter finals look like for the Rugby World Cup 2023.
Rugby World Cup 2023 – quarter final schedule
- Wales – Argentina (14th of October)
- Ireland – New Zealand (14th of October)
- England – Fiji (15th of October)
- France – South Africa (15th of October)
Now, in normal circumstances, all the teams qualified should be from Europe, for the semifinals, but nothing really add up to the end in this Rugby World Cup edition, so (almost) everything can happen. Still, if I would forecast the semifinals I think they could look as following:
- Wales – Ireland
- England – France
With Ireland the supreme winner, after a though final with France. But France, in spite being the hosts, and having one of the greatest team of all time, they didn’t look too stable in the group stage either. Even so, they beat New Zealand so this puts them in the position to beat South Africa, maybe. The ruling champion! Things are not clear, but France has a very good opportunity to waste. Ireland also has in front a though opponent, but New Zealand doesn’t look to be as dangerous as it was in the past, while the Irish team stands on very solid ground. The only two certain winners in the quarte finals of the Rugby World Cup looks to be Wales and England. However, I will keep an eye out on the event! 🙂
