Six weeks before the Champions League 2022 final, FC Liverpool – Real Madrid, I’ve stepped on Stade de France, Saint-Denis, for Spartan Stadion. The experience, here. Now, the big match is about to be played. Everybody expected to have a pure English final, but the proverbial luck of Real Madrid played, once more, a big role. Normally, Liverpool, this time, should trash the winner of most titles in the history of the competition. Though, Real Madrid had a very easy season in Spain, they didn’t have any serious opponent in the fight for the title so on these regards, Los Blancos should have an important advantage. Liverpool fought until the last moment with Manchester City for the Premier League title, which was lost by one point.
Four years ago: Real Madrid – FC Liverpool 3-1
The thing, though, is that the Englishmen, even though, far more tired, are far better in terms of quality and value. Apart from Benzema, no reliable player can help, normally Real Madrid. Comparing Salah and Mane… But we’ll see. In 2018, as you might remember, Real Madrid won 3-1 against FC Liverpool, when Bale scored a double and, well, Klopp’s team had between the posts… Karius. The rest is history! OK, Real Madrid had also a better squad back then. Now, for the Paris final – the first one held by this city in 16 years – the approach is opposite. If FC Liverpool will win, then I think some kind of justice will take place. If Real Madrid will be victorious this time as well, football doesn’t have too much hope.
Stade de France and Champions League
Anyway, back to Stade de France, as said, I have the honor of stepping it’s surface before some of the greats. Its grey aspect will for sure change. In the picture, you can see a picture of a set I bought after the Spartan Stadium event. 🙂 I promise to right an update after the match, as a slight comparison between the two events. Spartan Stadium and the Champions League final. It seems something that cannot be compared, but actually it can be compared, just because Sparta Race is a global event, born in the US, while Champions League is something inside Europe. And there is one more thing. At the first one, everybody can participate and this adds a bit of sweetness of the event.
Stade de France, to make a couple of remarks, before the big final stands out because:
- opened: 28th of January 1998
- cost: 364 million euro
- seats: 80.698
- dimensions: 119 x 75 meters
- memorable matches:
- 1998, France – Brazil 3-0 (World Cup final)
- 2000, Real Madrid – Valencia 3-0 (Champions League final)
- 2006, FC Barcelona – Arsenal 2-1 (Champions League final)
- 2016, Portugal – France 1-0 (EURO final)
