My curiosity about Tromsø was born from a… magazine. I saw the Midnight Sun Marathon advertised, so I have decided from that moment I needed to attend it. Now, it is not so easy to go to the northernmost city of Norway and, I think, the biggest northernmost city in the world actually, so for a couple of years, this remains a dream. Until I decided to spend New Year’s Eve with my love Anca. OK, not the Midnight Sun Marathon, but still a good reason to see the… polar night this time and the Aurora Borealis, of course. Unfortunately, the prices of the plane tickets sky rocketed, so in the end, we gave up on the initial plan of spending the night between 2022 and 2023 in Tromsø. We are delaying this by two weeks, finding cheaper tickets and so we head off, through Warsaw and Oslo, of course, on a long and quite exhausting flight. But we made it.
All landamarks ever dreamt in Tromsø
We are between the reindeer and tons of snow. We see Norway in a place where remoteness is tight with silence, modernism and wilderness in such a way that it is so hard to describe in other words than expressing a clear desire to become part of the community. A dream of mine came true and we saw one of the most serene places in the world, without any doubt. Everything seems perfect here. Even in the cold and rainy snow, it feels different. It is not warm at all, rather -10ºC always, but… Maybe it is subjective, but breathing the air of Tromsø, seeing the sledge dogs, the reindeer and… the Northern Lights on a… Friday 13th of July, completed a sentiment that went up to the roof from the moment we put our feet down from the plane.

It is only the beginning of 2023, but this is precisely why this adventure is important. It marks a start that opens windows to access our dreams and transpose them into reality. About the vacation, the experience itself. I’ve expressed myself already in the article here, so the only purpose here is to reinforce some strong feelings, the pure joy behind this wonderful experience. Amazed by the never ending tunnels, bridges and roundabouts. Inside the tunnels! Cruise ships, a trip to the top of the city with a splendid view and fueling more the old dream: need to attend Tromsø for the summer time, not only yo take part in the Midnight Sun Marathon, but also to explore the beauty of the place under light, not only by dusk, at most. Tromsø remains a dear place from where, believe me, I will write more stories for sure. Just as proof that dreams can turn to reality in the blink of an eye. With some preparation, of course, but, oh boy, it was worth it!!!
