I’ve noticed that my previous article about the Tromsø’s tunnels captured a lot of interest, and now I will express some impressions about the real experience thru Tromsøysundtunnelen. Well, it is not a long story, but I just to show you how it feels like going beneath the Norwegian Sea. It is a humbling sensation, and it is one not necessary very easy to access. Not by bus, at least, because I am sure you can get by taxi, but it is different and, maybe, pointless.

Not a piece of cake to access Tromsøysundtunnelen

Usually the busses which transit Tromsøysundtunnelen are the ones for the students, so their schedule is very limited, but there was a catch. In the period we’ve been there the famous Tromsøbrua (Tromsø Bridge) was under renovation, so limited traffic on it. Then, more buses went underneath the sea, so we made it, in the afternoon. Not without issues, but to explore this way as simple as possible, go to the Botanical Garden. The most Northernmost in the world!

Once you see it, go to Breivika Havn, there is a bus station with clear instructions with buses which go thru the tunnel. This is how we access the place. Tromsøysundtunnelen is impressive as an idea, and you are wondering how could it be built in such a remote place, in 1994, when not even the Norwegian souverain fund was too relevant. The Norwegians are really top engineers, and I am confident that many people, a lot of countries should learn from these guys.
